Centre Based Daycare (for individuals living with dementia)
The centre based daycare for those living with Dementia operates from
10.00am to 2.30pm every Wednesday. Participants are picked up from their
home and returned by a local community transport bus or the Co.As.It
minibus.
At the Centre, our participants are provided with morning tea/coffee and
biscuits, a hot meal for lunch with Italian bread and fresh fruit. Social
activities include, bingo, Italian cards, gentle exercises, games, an
occasional outing and now and again watching and Italian film.

A small fee is requested of each participant
Target Group:
This service is designed for people living with dementia who because of
their illness and isolation find themselves house bound. Our aim is to
raise the level of their quality of life and enjoy the company of others.
At the same time the service provides support for carers, giving them the
opportunity to spend some time to pursue other interests or recreational
activities.
Areas Covered:
Wednesdays: Ryde/Hunters Hill Local Government Area
Tuesdays: Inner West (Leichhardt, Ashfield, Burwood, Canada Bay & Strathfield Local Government Areas)
Both groups are for people of an Italian background.
Referrals:
Participants are usually referred by other welfare
agencies, their doctor, a relative, a carer, or they can also refer
themselves.
All referrals are followed within a two week period an assessment is made
by the Coordinator and a decision is made in conjunction with the doctors
recommendation before the participant may join the group.
As not all referrals are appropriate, the Coordinators are also able to
assist the family and participants by providing information about other
services and programmes.
Other:
The project follows the HACC guidelines.
The service is supported by a group of assistants and a diversional
therapist

Ageing, Disability and Homecare (ADHC) under the Home and Community Care Program.
