Co.As.It. Wraps Up Term 2 Adult Classes with Italian-Themed Trivia Night

On 1 July, Co.As.It. hosted its End of Term 2 Italian-Themed Trivia Night for adult students, bringing together our community of learners for a celebration of all things italiano.

Students from across all levels, from beginners to our advanced Italian classes, came together to put their knowledge to the test. The evening began with antipasto and bevande italiane, setting the tone before teams dove into the first round: Cibo e Tradizioni (Food and Traditions). Across six rounds, covering Cibo e Tradizioni, Viaggiare in Italia, Musica e Cinema, Lingua Italiana, and Cultura Generale, our students showed just how much they’ve grown in their language and cultural knowledge this term.

The “general knowledge” round proved to be a fitting challenge, with even the most confident teams finding it far from straightforward, and the trivia night taught our students some interesting things along the way. One example came from a question on DOP (Protected Designation of Origin) status, with teams asked to identify which product among Nutella, Parmigiano Reggiano, Panettone, and Prosecco holds this protection in Australia. The answer, Parmigiano Reggiano, took a few teams by surprise, some of whom had assumed Prosecco would qualify, given that it is protected under the EU’s own geographical indication rules. Teams were also asked to identify which brand among Benetton, Miu Miu, Massimo Dutti, and Golden Goose is not actually Italian. This one caught out even our native Italian-speaking teachers, with Massimo Dutti revealed to be a Spanish brand!

The competition remained tightly contested throughout, with two teams tying for first place on 58 points. A tie-breaker question on the plural of ginocchio (knee) left both teams stumped, so a second question settled it: Qual è la parola per “butterfly” in italiano? A quick answer sealed the win for Gli Azzurri. In second place was I Vincitori (“winners”) and third place going to Vinceremo (“we will win”) — a name that, this time, didn’t quite live up to itself!

We extend our sincere thanks to all students who participated and contributed to such a vibrant and enjoyable evening, to the Co.As.It. Education team for organising the event, and to Paolo, one of Co.As.It’s Italian teachers, for his excellent hosting throughout the night. We look forward to welcoming everyone back next term!
