Youth and Family Project Officer

Co.As.It. is seeking a Youth and Family Project Officer (YFPO) to build community capacity and enhance the skills of younger Italian Australians. The target for the program is young people aged 12-24 years an their families with a particular priority on those who are financially or socially disadvantaged.

KEY ROLES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Maintain close liaison with relevant government and non-government services and programs with particular emphasis on services targeting youth (Italian).
  • Liaison and co-operation with agencies which assist the Italian youth in order to ensure that services are accessible and culturally and linguistically appropriate.
  • Develop and assist support networks for the Italian youth.
  • Organise and conduct training in mentoring and leadership programs to the Italian youth. These programs will aim to increase the skills and confidence of younger people.
  • Build community capacity through event coordination and specifically targeting community and cultural events like the Norton Street Festa, Mental Health Month and Youth Week.
  • Provide and publicise information on services and programs for younger people and their families.
  • Inform the Italian community on issues concerning youth through the Italian media (radio and newspaper).

SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE AND EXPERIENCE REQUIRED

Essential

  • Tertiary qualifications in youth work, welfare, social work or demonstrated, relevant equivalent professional experience in a similar role;
  • Minimum of 2 years experience in a similar role in a community setting;
  • Demonstrated experience in working with social and financial disadvantage;
  • Demonstrated experience in organising community events that aim to build capacity of individuals and establish community;
  • Confidence in dealing with the youth sector;
  • Demonstrated understanding of issues affecting CALD communities in NSW and the impact this has on younger people;
  • Well developed organising and problem solving skills and ability to successfully manage competing issues and meet deadlines;
  • Well developed oral and written communication (in English and Italian), consultation and interpersonal skills;
  • Demonstrated experience in using office computer applications, including word processing, spreadsheets and databases;
  • Capacity to work independently with minimal supervision and collaboratively in a team environment;
