Co.As.It. in conjunction with the Art Gallery of NSW, the Italian Consulate General in Sydney, and DET are proud to launch the first Italian Education Study Kit: l'arte parla italiano.

This kit has been developed to support teachers of Italian in providing students with a rich context for studying the Italian language and culture. The kit is the fruit of the work of many teachers and staff members of Co.As.It., DET and the Italian Consulate General in Sydney. It is a wonderful tool that highlights the beauty, depth and significance of Italian art while providing language exercises for students to better their understanding of Italian on a broad range of topics which fit into the functions and notions of everyday language use.

For teachers:

The kit has two main components:

Printed section 1: this section contains an introduction with general background information as well as a series of 16 double-sided sheets which each feature an Italian artwork from the Gallery's collection.

CD ROM section 2: this section has been designed primarily to support the NSW Italian language syllabus documents. The CD ROM includes an audiovisual introduction to the Gallery; written information about resources available from the Gallery, Co.As.It. and DET; a PowerPoint presentation on the 16 artworks; and task sheets with language activities in Italian aimed at stage 3, 4 and 5 students.

Students benefit greatly from participating in experiences that provide them with learning contexts that can be transferred to other Key Learning Areas. Each of the 16 works in this selection is representative of an era and with this come the associated literature, music, history and mode of dress. In other words, the students enter a world that is rich with learning experiences.

We are confident that this unique Italian language teaching and learning tool will be of great interest and benefit to students and teachers alike.
