The Census will be held on Tuesday 11 August 2026.
While the questions asked by the census are relatively simple, like your age, work, education, and cultural background, your answers are extremely important.
The goal of the census is not just to collect data, it’s to create an accurate picture of what Australia looks like in 2026. This information will help guide decisions about the services, infrastructure, and policies our country invests in to ensure everyone is represented.
It ensures the needs of the Italian community are understood.
By helping build an accurate representation of the Italian community in Australia it also helps organisations like Co.As.It. advocate for resources to support the community and maintain Italian culture.
When you are completing the Census, make sure to accurately declare your ancestry and language.
If you have Italian ancestry, make sure you include Italian when answering the ancestry question.
If you speak Italian at home, even if that’s only with certain members of your family, make sure you record Italian when answering the question about language spoken at home.
How to complete the Census
The 2026 Census can be completed online, using a paper form or with assistance.
Households will receive information from the Australian Bureau of Statistics (ABS) about how to participate. You need to complete the Census wherever you are on Census night.
Help is available to ensure you complete the Census accurately. You can find information and support in English and Italian.
Assistance is also available in person and over the phone.
Check in with your parents, grandparents, relatives, neighbours and friends.
Ask them if they understand what they need to do. Help them access information in Italian. Assist them with their form if they need support.
Census data can help shape the services older Australians rely on
Aged care providers, for example, use Census data to better understand where cultural communities live, the languages they speak and the support they may need. This can help providers deliver services that better reflect the cultural and linguistic needs of the people they serve.

Come compilare il censimento
Puoi compilare il censimento online, in formato cartaceo o con la nostra assistenza.
A partire dalla fine di luglio 2026, verranno inoltrate a tutti gli indirizzi le istruzioni per compilare il censimento. Puoi iniziare a compilare il questionario non appena riceverai le istruzioni e sai dove ti troverai la sera del censimento.
Per assistenza nella lingua che preferisci, chiama il Servizio di interpretariato e traduzione (TIS National) al numero 131 450.
La maggior parte dei nuclei abitativi riceverà una lettera per posta che conterrà un numero identificativo unico di 16 cifre e una password temporanea per compilare il censimento online.
Alcuni indirizzi riceveranno una copia cartacea. Una volta compilato il modulo, puoi spedirlo nella busta affrancata allegata. Il modulo conterrà le istruzioni per compilare il censimento online, qualora tu preferissi questa modalità.
Ai visitatori e studenti internazionali che si trovano in sistemazioni come hotel, motel o alloggi studenteschi, le istruzioni per completare il censimento verranno fornite dal personale della struttura.
Se vuoi compilare il censimento separatamente dal resto delle persone che vivono con te, puoi ottenere un nuovo numero identificativo per completare la pratica online o richiedere una copia cartacea del censimento in inglese chiamando il numero 1800 181 227.
Chi deve partecipare
Tutte le persone che si trovano in Australia la sera del censimento, martedì 11 agosto 2026, devono essere incluse nel questionario, compresi:
- titolari di visto
- visitatori internazionali
- studenti internazionali.
Nel questionario non devono essere inclusi i residenti australiani che si trovano all’estero la sera del censimento, né i diplomatici stranieri e i loro familiari residenti in Australia.
Devi includere chiunque si troverà a casa tua la sera del censimento, inclusi visitatori e neonati. Il censimento è obbligatorio ai sensi della Legge sul censimento e le statistiche del 1905. Le tue informazioni personali sono tutelate dalla legge e non verranno condivise con nessun soggetto terzo, incluse altre agenzie governative.

È possibile ricevere supporto per compilare il censimento.
- Il modulo del censimento è scritto esclusivamente in inglese. Puoi chiedere a familiari ed amici di aiutarti a compilarlo.
